The stock show word of the day is “PRIDE”! Everywhere I look around at the Black Hills Stock Show, I see people that are proud of what they are doing.
There is no place more evident than back behind the show ring and in the stalls at the cattle show! Yesterday I got the privilege of having a young stockman from Miller Red Angus tell me all about his bull and bred heifer he had showed and the miles they had put on this summer at shows. I could feel his pride in his stock. That young man is lucky I didn’t give him a big momma bear hug because in that moment I was so proud of him and I know no matter where life leads that kid, he is going to make it but most of all he is going to be a fabulous human being.
There are businesses all around these events, that are proud of their products and services. In today’s world when everyone is rooting against you, it takes a lot of human confidence to set yourself out in these conditions. So, stay proud!
All of American Agricultures needs to stand tall and proud! It is of noble profession to feed the world! Let’s stick together and hold our heads high!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 3 daughters near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
