Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Before long, these hills will awaken from their long winter naps and come alive with a fresh, vibrant landscape. We hustle around to help all of our neighbors work their spring calves and enjoy a bit of friendly company with those that enjoy the same way of life that we do. Just as they come to our ranch to return the favor. Cattlemen, women, and kids coming together to work side by side, play a little, and the end the day with piece of pie. This is what rural America is made of!

Soon we will be turning cows and their baby calves out for their long summer vacation to graze and grow on that tapesty of green. These are moments that we live for as ranchers. The images that we dream of all winter long and sustain our hope for the year.

The plum blossoms have erupted in their pretty white and pink blooms dotting the landscape. If spring had an aroma on our ranch, it would be plum blossoms! Maybe it’s just me but I can’t help but ride by plum thickets and not steer my horse over to take in that intoxicating aroma. It fills me with all the feels, It has my husband excited for a bountiful wild plum harvest that will fill our pantry with his favorite, plum jelly!

Our kids are getting restless in their school room seats, excited to break free from their daily school routines and enjoy long days playing outside, riding horses, and running through the garden. They have their bottle calves, baby goats, and chickens to tend. Too bad I can’t get them to be as attentive to the dishes and laundry. One momma can only dream, right?

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 3 daughters near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report that is broadcast on 60 radio stations with coverage in 9 states, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and highlights R-CALF’s work on industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
