Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

What are we gonna do with these kids? Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.

For many families summer presents some new challenges like keeping kids active. I will be honest, since we homeschool summer is not a whole lot different that fall, winter, or spring around here. I found that that are there are unique opportunities in every community to keep kids socially engaged, mentally challenged, and dare I say it, even academically active.

There are vacation Bible schools in communities that are a great place for kids to participate in music, group activities, crafts, and even stay brushed up on their reading skills. Libraries have summer programs that are providing a whole lot of fun in communities and getting kids comfortable with being in their local libraries. Some schools even provide summer activities. And one of my favorite options to plug my kids into learning and social activities is with our local 4-H Extension program. You do not have to be a 4-H member to participate in most of these activities. Just last week my girls learned out to make barn quilts. Then they attended a demonstration at the local meat locker where they watch a cow be butchered. Later this summer they will attend a nature camp, craft workshops and learn how to make jelly.

Right outside your door there is probably a park or nature area that can become an inspiration for endless free play. All I’m saying is no matter how big or small your community is, I see opportunities all around for kids to have a fantastic summer making memories!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
