The world keeps turning, we have flipped another calendar page, and lo & behold we have entered the joyous month of June! Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
When we get into June, it just feels like we have officially entered summer. Am I right? The mornings are gloriously peaceful and full of the sounds of nature, like all of the different birds conversing around the ponds and above the prairie. The barn is buzzing with activity. My electric bill is through the roof with the blowers and fans that are running. I have a little boy who is creating mud puddles and dragging toys all of the the yard. My flowers are blooming like crazy. My garden still needs finished as I need to get my hot weather plants in the ground. Yes, people, I am of the camp that I don’t plant my tomatoes and peppers until June 1, call me crazy!
We still have a bunch of calves that need worked and we still have some cows that need to get pushed out to summer grass, but the big heifer AI project is behind us and soon all the bulls will be released to do their job. There is just a certain breathability about where we are now in the ranch season cycle.
We still have the over clouding stress of getting the rest of our ranch stuff moved to our new place, but it will all happen in due time. And I refuse to stress about those details when we have summer to enjoy!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
