As many are gearing up for a celebratory Memorial Day weekend, I just wanted to drop a few friendly reminders. Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
The gateway to the summer season is upon on us. It sort of snuck up on me being a bit early in May. Who doesn’t love a good ole 3 day weekend to catch up on socializing with friends and family or in my case some yard work and house work, but I digress.
Heading into the Memorial Day weekend, I just want to mention a few reminders. This is a great opportunity to support small, local businesses in your hometown. Grab some extra sodas or your favorite beverage of choice. Load up on the brats, chips, and buns at your local grocery store. Even better, visit your local butcher shop and grab some of their products, or you can’t go wrong with some steaks to throw on the grill. And how about area greenhouses, overflowing with blooms to decorate the yard! This is a great time to look around your community and doing a little local economic stimulation. I can not overstate how much small businesses appreciate your support.
As many are heading out on the open road or water, please keep safety a top priority. Put your phones down. Eliminate distractions. Wear your seatbelt. Wear those life jackets and watch the weather. If you have indulged on alcohol, please do not operate a motor vehicle. Memorial Day weekend is typically one of the most tragic of the year, please do your best to not become a headline. And above all your employer needs you back at work on Tuesday!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
