More than a trucker. Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
In our Jones Ranch operation there has been a band brothers have been steady and true to us every year. Our operation far out grew our available grass resources in our area long ago, requiring us to ship pairs out every spring and bring them back to head quarters in the fall. This scenario has meant that those who haul our cattle really become more than just truckers.
For the most part we using a trucking dispatch company in central Nebraska because they can efficiently coordinate the large number of trucks that we have needed to shuffle cattle all over the state and even out of state. But, inevitably, there are two truckers that work with that dispatch who are local to us and are usually apart of our semi-annual cattle convoy.
They have known my husband since he was knee high to a grasshopper. In fact, one of them is married to my husbands 4th grade teacher. When they first started backing up to our chute many years ago, it was clear they would become some of our biggest cheerleaders. I think they saw the stars in our eyes and felt the fire in our belly for building our operation. Over the years they have watched us go through so many phases of life and challenges and they have rode the ride with us.

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
