Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
Welcome to this brand new week right here on Ranch Raised!
If you live anywhere in the upper Midwest you have probably noticed a lot more two-wheeled traffic zooming up and down our nation’s black top. The annual Sturgis motorcycle rally is going on now until August 11.
From even 400 miles away this annual event impacts my life, on our ranch in Central NE, in ways some would never give a thought to. I notice that our local hotels have bikes parked to host road weary travelers needing a shower and a good night’s sleep. Our local restaurants are happy to welcome you in and offer you their best hospitality and meals. We want to show our traveling friends the best our area has to offer.
But, once out on the road, this time of year I have a heightened awareness of sharing the ribbon of highway with these travelers. It makes me pay attention on the roads, more than usual. If any of our traveling biker friends are listening, I also want to let you know we want you to go home safe and sound to your family. Please, notice that traffic in our area may be bigger than where you come from and it may move slower. It is probably a farmer or rancher that is headed to a field to work. We don’t mean to hold you up but traveling on our rural highways may require a little bit more patience and grace.
So let’s all work together to create a safe summer driving season!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
