Happy New Year! Thanks for joining up with me on Ranch Raised in 2024.
We made it through another winter weekend on the Jones Ranch with all the fun we could handle. There has been a good bit of sledding which led us to discovering the first thing that the Corgi puppy is scared of. There has been scores of baking, mainly pies and sourdough bread. There has been gallons of hot cocoa consumed, sometimes with some fresh whipped cream. There has been the hosting of family and so many giggles and laughs among cousins. There has been a lot of game playing like Dominos and their new favorite, “Cover your Assets.” These activities have been made a lot harder this year with a busy toddler brother wanting to barrel himself into the center of every game. So basically, everything that Christmas break on the ranch should be made of.
As we are off and running into the new year, I wish everyone more time with their family, health and peace in their hearts. May you find your passion in life and pursue it without apology. May you have lots of good days and bounce back from those bad days. May you surround yourself with good people and maybe a good dog or two and I’m okay if you are a cat person, too! May you find a way to bless and serve your community with the unique strengths that you have. I promise you will reap the benefits of this action as well.

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
