Big lights, big holiday, and big feelings. Welcome to this Tuesday edition of Ranch Raised.
When you have kids spread out in age, like we do, this time of year becomes a busy blur of Christmas concerts, parties, and festivities at school, church, and various activities. But, I want each of you to know that even if you do not share a space in the same child rearing chapter of life that I do, that YOU are absolutely wanted and welcomed.
This time of year can be a bit overwhelming for some and dare I say, even dark. If you have experienced loss in your life or it has just been a tough year, I know that it can be hard to feel the Christmas joy that seems to be oozing out of every corner of everyone else’s life. But I want you to know that you are wanted by your community, by your neighbors, by your family near and far.
Check and see when your local school is having their Christmas concerts. Churches services have a seat for you and probably a cup of coffee, too! Your community may have holiday festivals or parades or even just a simple meeting with Santa.
Feelings can get really big this time of year and for some not always warm and fuzzy. I hope that some hears this message today and opens their local newspaper or stay tuned to this radio station to see what is going on around town then slips on their coat & shoes and heads out the door to take part.
And if you know someone in your community that struggling remember that kindness and invitation costs nothing! Let’s all have a great holiday season, together!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
