We are wrapping up the first week of October which means we are closing out on National 4-H Week. Thanks for spending a few moments with me here on Ranch Raised!
The 4-H pledge is burned into my soul. It embodies so much of how I choose to live my life and what I want my children to grow into. “I pledge my head to clearer thinking. I pledge my heart to greater loyalty. I pledge my hands to larger service. And I pledge my health to better living for my club, my community, my country and my world.”
This last line of the pledge really has me reflecting. If the last few years have taught us anything, I hope that it has taught us that we need each other. It is healthy to live in communities that stick together, work together and support each other. It is healthy on so many levels for individuals to be active in their communities and that in turn builds healthier communities.
4-H is not just for farm and ranch kids. It is for all families who want to explore their child learning skills by doing them. If listening to Ranch Raised this week has stirred your curiosity about 4-H, contact the Extension Office that services your county and inquire about local 4-H clubs that you could go visit. I’m just sure that you can find your place in 4-H.

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
