Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Thanks for starting your week with me right here on Ranch Raised!

I think we squeezed the lemon pretty well this weekend and got every drop of goodness out of it! The sweet spot was catching some moisture which improved everyone’s mood and reinstilled some hope at a chance of getting this grass started and some seeds germinating.

I chauffeured the kids over to an ABGA goat show nearby. I am always amazed by these ABGA goats shows in our backyard that bring in exhibitors from all over the country. I even saw a trailer in the parking lot from Washington state, right here in central Nebraska! The girls held their own and won a little, saw a lot of really good goats, and enjoyed catching up with our goat showing friends whom we hadn’t seen in a while.

Yesterday some of my family went over to a neighborhood branding to lend a hand. They had a really good day catching up with neighbors and by my daughter’s account eating some really good desserts! And my husband was really happy with how his young horse worked dragging calves to the fire for her first time. So that is always icing on the cake.

I have my brassicas plants in the ground and some lettuce and radishes planted. I have tomatoes and peppers hardening off. And when I can’t find anything else to do, there is always more rhubarb to cut up and throw in the freezer so we can enjoy those rhubarb desserts all year long.

These are the sweet days of spring and I am so happy to share these moments with all of you!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
