Today’s not just any Monday, for the sake of trying not to be mundane, let’s call it “milestone Monday.” Thanks for spending a few minutes of “milestone Monday” with me right here on Ranch Raised.
When socked into the middle of a long hard winter, it can feel like the never-ending month of January is the worst kind of torture in the Midwest. My husband and I have this conversation on the daily, “When will January be over?” We are almost there and the Bon Jovi song, “Living on a prayer” plays on repeat in my head!
So, in an effort to try and stay positive especially amongst the children I try to find the light in each day to celebrate! This morning our 7-year-old sprung out of bed, which is hard to do on a frigid January morning to pull on her “100th Day of School” t-shirt that her older sister helped her customize. Nothing to Pinteresty here. The girls found a plain grey hand me down t-shirt and went to town painting polka-dots all over it with BINGO dobbers. Word has it there is a big first grade fashion show happening at school today. Her buttons were bursting and she was prouder than a peacock to be sporting the customer shirt made on our kitchen table.
Our little buckaroo has his 4-month checkup today, so that milestone is also one to celebrate as we enjoy every snuggle and slobbery kiss from that little guy!
100th day at our school and a chunky, healthy 4-month-old is enough to warm my heart on this winter day! I bet you have a lot to warm yours too, if you think about it. Have a great day!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 3 daughters near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
