B is for Brazilian beef! I have some really exciting news today on Ranch Raised.
By now my loyal listeners have gleaned that I am a champion for American agriculture. It is the exact reason why I started Fun, Fact Friday so that I could educate about the agricultural diversity within our country. I take pride in reminding our listeners to check the country-of-origin labels on their grapes and tomatoes and everything they are putting into their shopping basket so that you can support American ag producers.
It has been painful for me in more ways than one to know that while I can push American popcorn and oatmeal and other ag products, there was one product that I couldn’t speak to. Infact, the very product that affects my livelihood and bottom-line does not have a country-of-origin label on it.
Folks, the biggest fraud in the grocery store is happening right at your meat counter. Beef and pork are virtually the only two products at the store that do not carry a mandatory country of origin label on them. You do not know if that brisket came over on a boat from Brazil or if was born, raised, and harvested in the USA.
Now a group of lawmakers is ready to right that wrong and give consumers the power they deserve with an accurate country of origin label! Senators Thune, Tester, Rounds and Booker among others have just introduced The American Beef Labeling Act!

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
