Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Happy to have you back with me today on Ranch Raised.

Yesterday I stepped in to new water talking about kids and community service. I want to really empower families to look around and to find ways to plug time and energy into their communities. This should not need to be extravagant, heavily guided activity. While youth groups are a great place to provide organized community service activities, let’s be real, we are all capable of going some extra inches to help out those around us.

How about committing to scooping the sidewalk on your block before anyone gets on video games during the weekends. We love taking our dogs to the local nursing home to show them tricks and for even just companionship. The residents love reminiscing with our kids about dogs of their past.

How about taking a summer evening to go pick up trash at your local park? When older kids are out of school during the summer and “so bored” plug them into a local daycare to lend a helping hand and help run some steam off those little ones.

Currently, my kitchen table is covered with craft supplies. I have a couple of girls who have lots of artistic energy that needs channeled. They are making over 80 handmade Valentine’s Day cards to take to our local nursing homes! We have done this before and the residents absolutely LOVE IT! Our girls were running low on supplies so we put out a request on Facebook to see if any locals had supplies, they wanted to donate to this project and WOW, the response was amazing.

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 3 daughters near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report that is broadcast on 60 radio stations with coverage in 9 states, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and highlights R-CALF’s work on industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
