Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
Ah, the power of radio! Thanks for tuning in to Ranch Raised.
It was me, I said I would take the fall for it. Last Friday on the Hot Barn Report radio program I told Santa that all I wanted for Christmas was moisture. Well, now we know that Mother Nature had her radio dial on the HBR and viola, she delivered a winter storm wall-up to the Midwest. See folks, that is the power of radio!
Okay, all joking aside, I do want to take today to recognize those that do not get a snow day. Our ranchers and livestock owners are doing their due diligence to keep their herds and flocks fed and safe, no matter what the conditions. But, there are more among us that don’t get the opportunity to stay in their Christmas jammies when a winter storm socks them in.
Today I want to recognize our first responders, law enforcement, providers in the medical community, how about grocery store employees and the clerks that keep the gas pumps on or keep the motels open so that weary travelers can pull in off the road. Speaking of travel, thank you to all of the road crews that are equipped with nerves of steel and a special level of fortitude to keep of our roads clear and safe. I don’t know how you do it and I for one, do not want your job.
I know that I am missing many people that are sacrificing staying under a cozy blanket to get out and go to work so that they can keep the world going around. So I just want to extend a big ole THANK YOU for your dedication to your job and your community.
Let’s all extend some extra grace, understanding and appreciation as we buckle down to get through this winter together.
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 3 daughters near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report that is broadcast on 60 radio stations with coverage in 9 states, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and highlights R-CALF’s work on industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
