Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Welcome to this Monday March 10th edition of Ranch Raised!

It was a beautiful weekend here on here on the Jones Ranch. I made an early morning run about an hour and half away to meet with this infamous Fruit Truck that I have heard so much about over the years. My husband thought I was crazy to be leaving before the sun came up to go catch a shipment of fruit. I came home with 4 flats of beautiful Florida strawberries and suddenly everyone thought mom was a national hero! I don’t know wether to be impressed or embarrassed by my family polished off a flat and a half just eating fresh strawberries yesterday! So today, I will spend time freezing the rest to make jam later. I might throw together some muffins or do a little baking. My 14 year old daughter made a snack she saw on Tik Tok, the chocolate chips and strawberry salsa. You just might see this on recipe on a future episode of Ranch Raised!

Besides the strawberry bonanza occurring around here, calving has started off and this sunshine has these babies loving their life on the outside. While I would love to say that our mind is totally on the middle of calving and welcoming new life, that would be a disingenuous. The truth is, this week starts the beginning of one of the biggest changes our family has faced in our lives. I don’t mean to be vague, I will be sharing more as this story develops. We are not the first to face challenges like this. We are keeping our eyes up and are thankful for family, friends, and our health. Metaphorically, spring has always been a time that brings new life and for our family we truly do have a “new life” right on the horizon…..and no, I am not pregnant!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
