Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
Building stronger families will build stronger communities! Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
January is Family Fit Lifestyle Month. I think you can take this theme and make it what you want. Maybe that looks like getting the family meals and snacks back in check so that they are healthier. Maybe that looks like taking more opportunities to get the family off the couch and moving. Maybe for some families that looks like getting everyone’s emotional and spiritual health in check. I like to think that we can make small steps in all of these realms to help our families be healthier and stronger.
The decision doesn’t have to be yours alone. Sit down with your family and ask for their perspective. Where can you all agree that you could improve on areas to make your family healthier both physically and emotionally. Then I encourage you to write it down where everyone can see the goal or where improvement is needed.
So let’s make 2026 more about family meal nights, family movement time, family activity time and tuning into what those around you need most. The best part is these steps to creating healthier families should not create a financial burden, so that should never be the excuse. Your efforts can even be multiplied by inviting neighbors, friends, and family in on the fun.
I have always said, “harmony in the home, is harmony in the nation.” I guarantee that also applies to health! I am cheering you and your family on in 2026, not to being busier but to be healthier, both physically and mentally!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Merriman, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
