I have been really captivated thinking about September being Family Meals Month. I’ve got some more food for thought, today on Ranch Raised.
There is not doubt that eating together as a family helps deepen relationships and is good for physical and mental health. In addition, adolescents are happier, more fulfilled, and studies have shown have better body image when they regularly enjoy family meals.
I am in no way here to say that eating together as a family is easy. I understand that the time and energy it takes to put a meal on the table for bustling household can be challenging. But, I am here to offer tips that might help ease the burden and get those feet in the seats a more often.
Meal planning helps take the guesswork out of what to make at 6 pm on a busy Tuesday night. Setting up a simple meal plan at the beginning of the week gives you a framework for success to follow. This also might include doing all your grocery shopping on the weekend so your have your kitchen stocked when you get home and your are ready to tackle the meal. Don’t forget, meals don’t need to include 4 courses. Keep it simple. Your family really wants to devour time with each other. They will hardly notice wether it filet mignon or tacos that you serve! Make sure to follow along on the Ranch Raised FB page as I try to share meal planning ideas and by all means I want to hear what you are having for supper this week!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Merriman, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
