Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

It’s a fresh, new week. Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.

I talk a lot about my kids showing livestock and all the positive things that come from this activity. But last week, I was reminded that kids don’t have to be at the halter of a 1400 pound steer to have a positive animal experience.

My oldest daughter has been training and showing dogs for 6 years and my second oldest daughter for 4 years. This has given me a front row seat to watching a lot of kids train a lot of dogs over the years. We are blessed, in our county, to have an incredible 4-H dog program that practices all year around and is led by a group of leaders that mentor these kids into dog trainers.

I had no idea when my daughter started on this dog training journey that it would become such a big part of our lives. Hands down, my favorite 4-H program my kids take part in, is the dog program. I will also tell you it is the most challenging and rewarding of all the animals they show.

Over the years, I have watched dogs mature and kids change. If all kids had the opportunity to be mentored to train and love a dog the way these kids have, I can’t help but think how it could change this old world.

Today we salute the volunteers who pour into their local companion animal programs and the youth who have taken their 4 legged friends into their hearts and created loyal bonds that some will never know!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
