My summer splurges! Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
I have been meaning to share this summer parenting tip for a few weeks but after yesterday’s subject of American children losing the interest in playing and being outdoors because they have been kidnapped by screens, I decided today was the day!
My two youngest kids are still totally interested in pretend play and I look for ways to nurture their imaginative spirit. After some history lessons during our homeschool season, they took an interest in Lewis & Clark. They head off into the meadows and trees. They find sticks that look like guns. Their dogs are their trusty companions. They come back with all sorts of tall tales.
A few weeks ago I ordered them a 2 person tent that they can easily pack along and set up all on their own. They love it! One packs the tent and the other packs the snacks & water bottles and they set up camp! Now I splurged and got them a cheap set of walkie talkies. Suddenly Lewis & Clark are now Agent Pineapple and Agent Strawberry. That tent is now their spy headquarters or their animal shelter for their baby kitties. I have more than gotten my money’s worth out of these two purchases.
And I can’t forget the trampoline! My grandma bought a trampoline for my older girls over 10 years ago. We never had the perfect spot to set it up, but now we do at this ranch! All 4 kids spend hours outside bouncing and playing on it!
So put the screens UP and get everyone outside!
