Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
Im going to wrap up my thoughts on my 5 years on the airwaves! Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
I am a student of life, so of course, I have noted lessons I’ve learned in my tiny corner of this big radio industry.
First, be willing to be challenged and embrace risk! I am one of the least technically inclined people of my generation. I am that parent that needs their kids to program their phone and TV remote. If I would have let me fear of the technical learning I would need to do, get in my way of this opportunity, I would have drowned in fear before I had the chance to flourish in the blessing. When local radio stations are hiring, answer the call, you never know what kind of doors might open in this industry!
Second, be authentic. In my short 5 years on radio, I have watched corporate media consolidation and AI take over all media mediums. Hometown radio is still alive and I will fight for it. There are still radios in every vehicle, most tractors, and now on every phone. I believe listeners want real people telling the news, markets, weather, and personal stories with authenticity that create genuine connection. AI can not do that and big corporate media can not do it well.
Finally, support privately owned networks, like Your Ag Network and your hometown radio stations with your advertising dollars. If you don’t, they won’t be there when you need them!.
