There is something that saddens me about the month of June slipping out the door. Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
We just got back from a big sheep show in Rapid City. And honestly it was sort of bittersweet thinking that it is our last showing road trip with our oldest daughter before she heads south for college. With June slipping away from us, we have over a month before our next outing which is the county fair.
June is one of my favorite months because it really feels like summer. You are rewarded for all of those long winter days feeding cows, chopping ice, and freezing your face off by sending the cows to grass. My garden gets planted and I get to watch it grow. Bright colored blooming flowers adorn my patio. And the kids are running wild outside catching frogs and turtles, playing in their tents and on the trampoline. But, when June leaves it breaks my heart a little. It’s like we have hit our summer peak and it’s all downhill from here. Anyone who has been in a big box store can see the aisles of school supplies already out.
I know we have plenty of hot days ahead. Hours in the in river and weeks in the hay meadows. So I will try to give June a long lasting hug and savor the rest of summer.
Before I sign off for the day, I want to be thankful for the moisture we have received but extend our heartfelt prayer to areas of the Midwest and especially South Dakota that were ravaged by storms. And out west, we hold constant in prayer for moisture that will extinguish the wildfires. Mother Nature please extend grace on America’s heartland!
