m in the middle of it! Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
I am always the woman that can take it one day at a time, one hour at a time. It is just what I have to do, to be in the middle of it! And let me tell you, I am in the middle of it! In 6 days, my oldest daughter and I leave for her pilgrimage to OK, for college, which is a 2 day drive. BUT, first we have to get through county fair and I am really starting to feel all the feels.
I stand in the door of our barn today and realize, it will never be like this again. Today is the last day this barn that we have adapted into a show barn will ever be this full. My oldest daughter is launching into her next chapter and aging out of 4-H. There will never be this many show lambs in the barn being managed. Show cattle numbers will always be in flux. My chest tightens. Im trying to breathe through it. We have 6 more sleeps as a family in the state or Nebraska but most of those will be spent split up between this ranch and hotel rooms at the county fair.
I’m prepared for this week to be an absolute blur. I’m not a feeler by nature, more of thinker, so navigating all these emotions that are trying to bubble up is hard for me to admit. I don’t know if I am ready for this last big county fair with all 3 of my girls putting their passion and hard work on display. Her last 10 years in 4-H just all went so fast.
But, then I look at the dazzling blue eyes of my tan, 3 year old cowboy, who will probably running around the fair grounds half naked and like a feral tom cat, and I think, “momma, save your energy. You’ve got a little boy to keep you humble in the mother-hood!”
