Everything we got! Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
My husband and I were going around some fence the other day with our two youngest and for some reason I was getting into my feelings. My little boy was getting tired and a touch cold as the day was setting into evening. I packed him in front of me, on my four wheeler, so he could snuggle in to me. This set me deeper into my feelings remembering how I used to carry my daughter who is now getting ready to leave the nest in front of my on me saddle. As badly as I want to, I just can’t reach back and grasp those days back.
I was thinking of the celebrations we will be having later this month honoring her closing of her high school chapter. And I keep wondering what I think every senior parent ruminates on, “Have I done enough?” We didn’t ever go on any family vacations. But we did spend an immense amount of time together, as a family, especially these last four years homeschooling. We didn’t buy her a fancy car and we won’t be funding her education, but we did help her build a cow herd that will hopefully launch her financially into adulthood.
We didn’t go to fancy restaurants but we ate most every meal, prepared by me, together at our kitchen table. We ate a lot of ham sandwiches out of the back of the trailer on the junior rodeo trail and even a few on ranch picnics on the prairie. As I become intoxicated with the memories of packing her on the front of my saddle all those years ago, when she was all tuckered out from trailing cows to grass, I settle with affirmation, that “yes”, we gave it everything we got!
