This week seems to be about reflecting on the what and who I am thankful for as my oldest child prepares to close her high school chapter.
Education seems to have diverted from what was mostly a linear path for decades but now is evolving into a path of autonomy for the best interest of the student. Now, that linear public education path still exists, but more families are flexing the freedom to educate in non-traditional ways.
As I have been in the passenger seat of watching my oldest daughter navigate her next educational chapter, I have some affirmation of how mainstream homeschooling is being viewed. Looking online at the colleges she was pursuing, all of them had a tab for homeschoolers to refer to on their Admissions page. In fact, I would say colleges are marketing directly to this niche homeschool market!
Here in Nebraska, we are extremely blessed to have a community college system that now offers FREE college courses to high school students and that extends to homeschool students! I just want to encourage all high schoolers to carefully consider your local community colleges as a resource for navigating your next steps. Often times, they are very in tune to what job markets are hot in your area and helping students be placed in them.
I’m just going to wrap up by encouraging high school students to lean in to and explore what their local community college has to offer! And a huge shout out to community colleges for providing local options for students to have accessibility to and with affordability in mind!
