Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Alllllllllll Aboard!
Welcome back to Ranch Raised! I cannot believe the chaos that has ensued in the last 24 hours since I talked to you last. I told you I wouldn’t tell you cute, cuddly baby goat stories every day, but that may be a lie.

Right now all I can think about is Ozzy Osbourne’s song Crazy Train because we are all aboard, full steam ahead on the goat kidding crazy train! We were in the barn until after 11 pm last night. My husband made the rounds at 4 am. My two younger girls ran down to the barn for a quick check at 6:30 am before the bus came and all was quiet, but when my husband went out to start his tractor a short time later he heard little baby goat cries in a pen south of our house, where I didn’t think we had any heavy does.

Goats are popping everywhere. My oldest daughter happily elected herself to stay home today from school and be the barn monitor. We are still one of those old school families that lets our kids stay home from school to do ranch work when we need them to.

By most standards, a visit to our ranch doesn’t look too festive right now. I’ve got a few poinsettias on the table with red table cloth and the girls did set up a tree downstairs with only a meager, few gifts under it. But, I assure you that 100% of our focus is on the what happens in the barn, both long ago and today!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 3 daughters near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report that is broadcast on 60 radio stations with coverage in 9 states, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and highlights R-CALF’s work on industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
