Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
All the usual spring things are happening on the ranch, but wait there’s more! Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised!
We are in the downhill slide of calving, with somewhere south of 100 head left if truly feels like we can catch our breath and refocus. I have been spending my afternoons on going around fence. We are in a few different stages of planning to set up different heifer groups to AI. My husband and girls are looking forward to heading to the first branding of the season this weekend at the neighbors. And of course we are still squeezing in some school work at Jones Ranch Academy!
As if spring time on the ranch isn’t busy enough, we have the daunting task looming over us of moving an entire ranch. It’s a process, folks. Lots of trips back and forth to grab what is needed of next highest importance. With some modifications made at our new place, the kids’ show heifers and sheep are ready to take the trip north this week and the barn cat! I look at all the show lambs they will be moving and wonder if they are going to be doubling the sheep population of the new county.
There is just never an easy time to move a ranch. I have found that my stress levels moderate if I just surrender it all to the man upstairs. There will be more trips back and forth. It will all get done, one trip at a time, and it will all be fine. Someday it will all be fine. I find the pearls of the day to be thankful for like our health, sunshine, and hopefully with more moisture some green grass.

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
