Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

There is nothing more “Ranch Raised” than celebrating National Cow Appreciation Day!

Karina, does your world really orbit around cows? The answer would happily be, “yes”! I know that to many celebrating cows seems so silly, but for us, it just runs in our blood. When you are immersed in this way of life, you wake up thinking about cows and you go to bed dreaming about cows. Cows truly consume our lives and we are completely okay with it. I watch my family and neighbors have this same level of commitment to their herds and I completely understand it. In fact, it is a language that few speak, but it is easily recognized by our peers in rural America.

There is no doubt that there is an attack on the cows, the cattle industry, and our ranching way of life. I will never understand how anyone can believe that what we do under these western skys, on this ocean of grass, alongside these bovines will be the ruination of the climate and the earth. Towns in rural America were built on the backs of the cattle industry and today many are still clinging to the American rancher to support small town main street. And none of this would be possible with out our favorite four-legged herbivore. So wether you calve out cows or not, you livelihood too might just be connected to the cow.

So for today, we suppress the naysayers and salute the animal that yields us food, so many by-products, and for many happiness, a livelihood & purpose. All of us at Your Ag Network appreciate the cow and we think you should too!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Merriman, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
