Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
Attention cattle producers, the Cedar Top Ranch annual bull sale, in Burwell, NE has been postponed until next Monday, February 24 due to weather.
Speaking of this weather, there is no way to sugar coat it but we are in for a tough, tough week in ranch country. Thankfully, we are not calving, but stress for those that are is probably immeasurable.
It can be said that it takes a special kind of person to take care of livestock day in and day out. We have to have a no excuses, go-getter mind set with scoop of bounce-back-ability. When the days are the toughest, you dig deep and find things to be thankful that most take for granted like the sun shining despite the temperature, diesel engines starting, water flowing, a warm home to sit down in, and a family to help you through the tough days and celebrate the best days.
We watch the forecast and keep silently telling ourselves, “one more day” or “if we can just get through this week, look at the warm up next week.” Our victories come in the number of cattle fed and watered. We know that in our line of work we are going to face winter challenges, every year. Sometimes the winters are long and hard and other times they come in short week long bursts, like this week. But, deep down, there is an internal fire that burns with in livestock producers that keeps us going despite weather challenges.
To everyone from road crews, linemen, city workers, livestock producers, and all those that have to work in these elements to make this world go around, I am here to cheer on that internal fire with in all of you!
Stay safe, slow down, stay warm and lets get through this week together!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
