Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
Walking amongst the future! Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
Yesterday my husband and I have the privilege of chaperoning our kids and their FFA chapter to the mecca of all outdoor farm shows, Husker Harvest Days. It is hundreds of acres of farm and ranch machinery shined and on display, farm and haying demos, live cattle exhibits, working dog and horse training demonstrations. Everything imaginable to the farm and ranch enthusiast can be seen at Husker Harvest Days.
What was even more remarkable was the sea of youth that filled the streets, the tents, and the stands. Yesterday was the historical “FFA Day” when FFA chapters are welcomed by the exhibitors and crowds. FFA kids got in for free by bringing canned food that was collected by the local food banks. Then the kids set off to all corners of the grounds to do what they came to accomplish. For some it may have been to try the fried donuts; others were checking out all the tool sales; and of course there was all that big equipment to climb all over. My kids were interested in the livestock exhibits. One of my girls told me all about the enormity of the wind turbine that was on display. Our two littlest loved watching the dog agility demos as well collecting lots of treasures to take home.
I know our kids are pulled in a lot of directions these days and they have a lot of challenges facing them and how to commit their after-school time. But, it sure put a smile on my face to see thousands of young people either stepping their toe in the water or fully immersing themselves into this ag experience! Well done, Husker Harvest Days and well done FFA nation!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
