Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
It is full steam ahead, fall frenzy season. Thanks for tuning in today to Ranch Raised.
To be honest, my exposure to commercial marketing is pretty limited. We don’t have cable TV and I don’t know when the last time was that I had a glossy women’s magazine in my hands. But, when I am occasionally exposed to this kind of marketing, I realize how disconnected my life is from what most would consider mainstream.
Take for example this season of autumn or fall. Halloween candy has already been out in stores for a month. Christmas decorations are now lining store shelves. The ideal is that women are sitting around sipping Pumpkin Spice Lattes that they paid to be made by someone else while lighting their special “fall is in the air” candle, snuggled under a fuzzy, cozy blanket waiting for their kids to come home from school is so fictional to me, maybe even sci-fi.
Like doesn’t anyone have salsa to can? Isn’t there apples to preserve and rhubarb beds to take care of for their fall harvest? How about hauling hay or scrambling for a 4th cutting of alfalfa. And for the love, who doesn’t have 162 days of cattle work to be done in the matter of a 3-week period?
It is probably my life that reads like a dystopian novel to most of society. I mean, I don’t think I have ever even had a Pumpkin Spice Latte. I prefer cinnamon aroma to come wafting out of my oven instead of a candle and honestly, I look like lumber jack in flannel anyway, so I am completely failing at this fall thing. I better just get back to my cattle work.
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
