Living out in the country and on a ranch means that many kids, like mine, spend a lot of time on a school bus! Today on Ranch Raised I want to celebrate these special people in our kids’ lives.
Ode to the School Bus Driver!
Up bright and early,
Often before dawn.
To start the big yellow bus,
With coffee in hand and sometimes a yawn.
Down the roads of the district they must go,
In sunshine, rain, sleet and snow.
They face the travel challenges with nerves of steal,
They have to get these kids to school for their breakfast meal.
They greet our kids first thing in the morning with a warm smile.
They bring them back to me safely every night after carrying them many miles.
They carry our community’s most precious cargo
So our appreciation for them, we should never for go.
Our history with our driver goes way far back!
See she even drove my husband to school when he was just a short stack.
My girls have shared secrets and stories with our driver, I’m sure.
She is their open ear, their buddy, and I am so thankful for her.
There are some people at school that don’t have jobs of glamour and rank,
But our bus driver is a golden gal worth more than the school’s money in the bank.
So if you share a deep appreciation for your bus driver, like I do mine,
Make sure to let them know they are valued and one of a kind!

Thank you for taking care of my family! There is no one else I would trust my kids with on this planet!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
