There are no greater environmentalists and conservationists than the very men and women that I have the honor of sharing this space with! So thanks for celebrating Earth Day with me right here on Ranch Raised!
To be honest, I have never given much thought to Earth Day. I guess it is just second nature to those of use working every day in production agriculture to always have the dear ole Mother Earth as our top priority. While I may not be able to provide a positive environmental impact to the entire world, you bet your boots that around the Jones Ranch, we take care of land, water, and air that we are responsible for.
There is absolutely a connectiveness that ranchers have to the grasslands that we inhabit. We nurture and work with Mother Nature to create ecosystems and habitats that will last for generations.
So it is frustrating when our way of life comes under attack and is erroneously blasted for environmental subterfuge by people in suits and ties that criss-cross the skies overhead in their diesel jets and blame my bovine friends for climate changes that have been occuring since bison inhabited the Wild West.
Thank you for those of you who support American agriculture because we are some of the best environmentalists and conservationists that are working hard to make sure we leave this planet better than we arrived for our kids and yours! I know we will do our part so I hope you will join us in doing your part! Have a great day my friends!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
