I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend! The Jones Ranch has been a busy place as calving season has been cranking up. This season keeps us close to home, not that we are world travelers anyway. While the days are long and the work is grueling, I do love that we all do it together. I just love seeing this life through my kids’ eyes.
We were able to sneak into town for an hour or so and let our younger ones take part in our community Easter Egg hunt! Big thanks to all the volunteers across the land that put on Easter Eggs hunts in the towns! The weather was great and there is just something about seeing all the kids in your community rushing around enjoying the tradition. It was a full circle event since our older kids helped fill a few hundred plastic eggs at their last 4-H meeting as a community service project! We even caught up with a few neighbors and friends that we hadn’t seen awhile since no one gets to town too often these days.
Otherwise, daily egg hunts take place in the barn with our little cluckers enjoying the signs of spring greening up around the yard and grain that left by the other animals.
We’ve got a big week around here, so stick with me all week and I’ll let you know what we’ve got going on!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
