What a humdinger of a week! I’ll catch you up today on Ranch Raised.
If you tuned in on Monday, you will probably notice my voice was only at about 50%. It seemed I had finally caught what I had nursed my kids through last week. Only this momma didn’t bounce back with quiet the same bounce as my littles. After a few agonizing days fighting through what I knew was influenza but also having this feeling that I was swallowing razor blades, which my kids never complained of. I decided I better head to the doctor if I wanted to have a voice and get back on the airwaves this week.
My family knew it must be bad if I was heading to the doctor because I usually can get everything whipped here at home. Infact, it had been 14 years since I had been to the doctor to be treated for an illness. But this case of strep throat was just a battle I couldn’t win on my own. After a few days of being on an antibiotic I am coming around and my voice is coming back.
In trying to find the silver lining in every situation, this week gave me an extreme appreciation for the rural healthcare opportunities that we have in our small town and how blessed we are to have not one but pharmacies.
So thank you to all those medical personnel who are waging the cold, influenza and strep battles, on top of the other emergencies and medical situations, in your communities!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
