The past few days my kids have been involved in incredible learning and personal growth opportunities.
My oldest daughter started her journey to National FFA Convention by stopping at the American Angus Association offices with her FFA officer team to learn what happens on the other side of the registration papers! Even a Hereford girl learned a lot about what happens inside those office walls. Once in Indianapolis she had an amazing time at the expo, general sessions, and taking in some great workshops
My other girls were at a different event where they sat at the feet of ag industry professionals learning about opportunities that are available with in the fields of agronomy, ag sales & equipment, feeds & nutrition, and even taking an industry tour of the infamous Ward Labs in Kearney, NE.
One of my girls was a part of the cattle team fitting contest where she and her young teammates had to fit a heifer by themselves without help from any adults. It was a great exercise in teamwork, planning, executing, and problem solving.
Then my girls hit the dirt arena for a couple of days showing their heifers. We spent early mornings and late nights together as a family. They were surrounded by their friends who gave side hugs when things didn’t go their way and high fives when there were victories to be celebrated.
And the best part of the entire weekend was the memories made with so many awesome people!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
