Welcome to a new week and I am so happy to you here with me right here on Ranch Raised.
I will admit, when it comes to national and global news, we are pretty insulated on the Jones Ranch. We don’t watch TV and besides a few ag publications that mostly collect dust, we do not read the newspaper.
However, since my husband has been busy chipping away at 4th cutting alfalfa, he got a good dose of radio time in the tractor this weekend to catch us up on the global crisis occurring on the other side of the world. I don’t claim to know all the details, but I do know that the natural human effect is that if one of mankind is hurting, I think we all hurt.
I’m sorry to hear that another country and their people are being hurt so deeply and so many lives are being lost. Like most of us, I wish for a world that lives in peace. A world that lives without corruption. A world where we can all contribute to the good of mankind. But that just doesn’t seem to be in the cards.
So today, I will be thankful for what we have living in America. While she isn’t perfect, she gives us freedoms and safety that some can only dream, and some will never know. Let the world’s troubles today be a powerful reminder of all that we must fight to maintain in our great nation. Freedom is never free!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
