A New Week, a New Chapter, right here on Ranch Raised.
March is National Reading Month, so as a homeschool mom, you better bet that I’m going to highlight this observance!
I can remember in high school reading one of my favorite books, “To Kill A Mockingbird”. There is a legendary quote from that book, “Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.” And that quote has rattled around in my head for nearly 30 years.
There are a lot of socio-economical factors that sorts the human race into paths that determines success. I have always felt that teaching a child to read can be their ticket into rooms they may otherwise not unlock.
Embracing reading starts at home, before a child can even identify the letter “a”. You will never regret making reading a priority in your home. Local libraries are an excellent source of reading materials to keep your book options in your home fresh and exciting. You can also do a book swap with another family in your town. Swap 3 children’s books a week to make reading fun.
Come back tomorrow and I’ll share what we are all reading here on in the Jones home! It doesn’t have to be about reading piles of British literature. Sharpening reading skills can happen with science experiments and executing kitchen recipes. You might be surprised how easily you can make sure your kids make reading a part of their everyday activity.
Get out and enjoy this beautiful spring weather and stay safe out there. Let’s all send up a little prayer for rain.
