Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

It’s mid week, but I don’t think my mind is in the middle, at all. Thanks for joining me today for Ranch Raised.

Typically, this is the week of the year where I am hyping up anyone who will listen about the amazingness of agriculture, because this is National Ag Week. This is one of the weeks I live for! Using my little ole platform to celebrate America’s fuel, food, and fiber producers! But, this time around, I just can’t get the thoughts to form, like usual years.

My phone calls this week revolve around finding fencing supplies and hay for those affected by the wildfires in Nebraska or directing monetary donations to vetted sources where the money will stay local. My soul is heavy, so heavy for the very people who are cut from the same cloth as I am. We are a pretty simple kind of people out here in the Sandhills. We don’t ask for much and we don’t take much. But, right now, those very people need a lot. They need a lot of hay and fencing supplies. They need an extra hand to rebuild. As if calving season during a normal year isn’t stressful and taxing enough, the health and reproduction implications to cattle in the wildfire areas will be felt by those producers for years! The stress in those areas is compounding to both 2 and 4 legged beings.

So National Ag Week just feels different this year. So, please stand with Nebraska and our cattle industry. We need you now, more than ever and that is saying a lot for a bunch that doesn’t ever ask for much.

About Karina Jones 475 Articles
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 3 daughters near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion. Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA. You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report that is broadcast on 60 radio stations with coverage in 9 states, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and highlights R-CALF’s work on industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the ranch. Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
