To start the seeds or not to start the seeds, that is the question. Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
I’m going to share with a slight wedge of self disappointment that creeps in every spring. I’m going to bare my soul to you. I do not start any of my own garden seeds, I never have. Now, this isn’t to say I have not wanted to. I scroll those homesteading and gardening blogs and I watch with envy how they are getting their hands in the dirt this time of year when I’ve still got snow on the ground or our ground is usually frozen. I dream of being that gardener.
But, then I have to come back to my own reality of homeschooling 4 kids and it being calving season. I think that one of the biggest deterrents to gardening is the overwhelm that it brings some people. Where to start? What to do next? How to do it all? I have been victim to that overwhelm and had to push through so I know how it could stop some people from even starting.
What I’ve also learned about gardening is it is a very long season. And if I’m going to have any “gas in the tank” so to speak during garden preservation season, I am better off conserving my mental stamina and energy at the beginning of the season. So, I support my local greenhouses and buy plants instead of starting my own seeds.
However you start your garden, is fine by me! Do what works best for you, but most of all, just garden!
