Bringing you a “Point of Order” today on Ranch Raised.
Yesterday I got to be surrounded by blue & gold brilliance at my daughter’s district leadership development events. I watched kids present people in agriculture, and speak on everything ulcers in horses to butchering chickens. And of course there is the perennial highlight the FFA creed speaking. My daughter punched her ticket to state in Jr Public Speaking with her speech, “AI in Ag Education” about the dangers of students using artificial intelligence in the classroom.
My daughter was a part of a team event and that is what I want to highlight today. For two years I’ve watched my daughter and her teammates meet multiple times a week during the fall and winter to prepare for their Conduct of Chapter Meeting event. If you are not familiar with “CCM” is the baby step to the Parliamentary Procedure Event. Both of these contest and their competitors leave me awe-struck! I would be hard pressed to walk into many school board or rural electric board meetings where terms like “point of inquiry” and “postpone indefinitely” are being and being done so correctly. Parli pro is sadly becoming a lost skill.
I want to take a minute and recognize the FFA organization as a whole for not letting parli pro go out of style. This might be the last youth organization actively teaching parli pro! I applaud the FFA Advisors that carrying that Robert Rules of Order book around and passing that knowledge on to young people, for these are the leaders that we need in board rooms!
