In my library era! Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
I’m going to ask you a sincere question, “Have you visited your local library in the past year? The past 5 years? Have you ever stepped foot into your community library?” I want to pique your interest a little bit about a gem that lies with in so many communities and I’m going to proclaim as mostly underutilized and recognized.
Today’s libraries are not the libraries of yesteryear. The Encyclopedia Brittanicas are no longer the backbone and the fear of cobwebs and dust are past phobias. Today’s libraries, even in the tiniest of towns, are fresh and vibrant and really need to be celebrated as an axis their community. I don’t know what has ahold of me but I can not get enough of our local libraries. Just yesterday I walked into our local library with my 15 year old to change out some books, DVDs and STEM Kits. The library was bursting with activity. A STEM lab with the local extension agent was taking place in one room, a room that was also hosting a beautiful display of art work. Inside the main library there were some high schoolers playing chess, some kids playing computer games. A mother and her girls working on a puzzle and another mom reading to her kids in a cozy corner. It really just made me smile to see so many kids and families using the library!
Our library like so many others has become a vibrant center for activity and community. Check in at your local library to see what they have going on. You just might be surprised at what they have to offer. And if you have a talent or skill to offer your library, I am sure they would be grateful for your time.
