Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Born near the barn! Thanks for joining me today for this special Christmas edition of Ranch Raised.

Today we celebrate the birth of Jesus, born in a barn. It was a humble beginning. No gender reveal party. No baby shower, in fact, many questioned how valid his arrival was, being born to unwed parents. But, it is in those little, nondescript details that has made this story shine brightly for centuries.

It is those modest technicalities and that lowly scene that actually makes His birth the most relatable to people like me. See, I come from a long line of people who weren’t born IN a barn, figuratively speaking, but we were born near barn. Like many of my family, friends, and neighbors, this morning started similar to yesterday morning and tomorrow morning. We started feeding tractors and pickups and headed out, buzzing around our farms and ranches feeding our livestock for the day.

While Christmas of present is filled with tinsel, bright lights, and wrapping paper galore, the first Christmas couldn’t have been more opposite. Let today be not about how much you have to give under a tree, but instead giving yourself to all those around you, because that is the best present of all.

I’ve got a beef tenderloin to smoke and some veggies to roast. And in an odd warm weather scenario, I’m sure we will still find plenty of reasons to be outside and soak up this sunshine and undoubtedly working, ironically, in the barn.

May you all have a very merry Christmas from all of us at Ranch Raised and the Jones Ranch.

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Merriman, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
