Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Thanks for stopping by this mid week check in right here on Ranch Raised! We have had a beautiful, damp week of wet weather. While some of our pastures were starting to get a bit crispy, we have had some wonderful slow, soaking rains this week to help quench these hills. My heart goes out to those areas who had more rain and storm damage than wanted.

One of my favorite things about fall is the harvesting of the bounty! Not only the harvesting fills my heart, but the preserving of it, is my love language. I am without a doubt, an “acts of service” type of person. So, keeping my family full and fed is one way I show my love.

With the help of my girls, we will keep working through the last lug of peaches today. Yesterday, we cranked out a peach crisp. Today I want to try some peach muffins and undoubtedly  there will be some canning happening. We are digging a few more potatoes for a pot of cheesy potato soup set to simmer.  I’m still waiting on the majority of my tomatoes to ripen but my patience is growing thin. We may need to make a big haul and let them ripen on the porch. The girls surprised me with some beautiful mums for my birthday last week that I would like to get potted to replace the petunias that have faded away.

In between school work, the girls are working on halter breaking some baby show calves that they hope to be debuting in a few weeks. I have a little boy who is loving the  return of muddle puddles in the yard, catching frogs, and roaming around and getting into all kinds of mischief.

And it all reminds me that there, right before my eyes, my heart is full and I am so thankful for this simple life.

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Merriman, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
