Welcome to a marvelous Monday edition of Ranch Raised.
We have a glorious weekend filled with fall things! My oldest 3 girls and I took off Friday afternoon and went to a fruit truck stand that was offering what will probably be my last lug of Colorado peaches. We grabbed a watermelon too that we will enjoy this week.
Then we traveled to my mom’s house and had supper. Someone made mention that it was my birthday that week and before I knew it, I was wearing a sombrero and all the wait staff was singing happy birthday to me while my girls videoed on their phones and took great pleasure in the public entertainment.
Saturday was filled with seeing old friends in a familiar place where I grew up. We shopped at a wonderful fall vendor fair and brought home lots of treats to our boys who stayed home to move hay off the meadows. Yesterday brought a beautiful slow steady rain which was the perfect catalyst to get a pot of soup going and some baking done. The pumpkin streusel muffins were a perfect way to start this morning, and so easy since they were baked yesterday. Today the sun is shining and the meadows in front of my house are a beautiful green after a 2 inch soaking of rain over the weekend!
I started my morning by picking some cherry tomatoes and looking around at all this splendor. After we get our homeschool work done, I’ve got some pumpkin snickerdoodle dough that needs baked and then I better check on those peaches to see who ready to go into jars. It may not be a fancy life, but it is perfect for me! Have a great day!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Merriman, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
