Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
Welcome to a brand new week right here on Ranch Raised!
This isn’t just any ole week, this is county fair week here at the Jones Ranch! My girls have watched as most of the state of Nebraska has gotten to strut their stuff at their local county fairs and now it is time for our local kids to shine!
Cattle and sheep are being clipped. The showbox is being cleaned out and inventory taken. 3 rows of potatoes are being dug, hoping to find 5 potatoes the same size. The dog needs washed. The photography entries have been mounted on their mat boards. Our supply of hot glue sticks is running dangerously low as all of the craft projects are receiving their final touches.
The kitchen floor is covered in a dusting of flour. My husband is afraid to eat anything in refrigerator for fear it will be the secret ingredient in a 4-H baking concoction. But, he did save the day, for he left the ranch early this morning to go get a rake tire fixed and a new hydraulic hose in town, all hayfield causalities from the weekend. My oldest daughter panicked realizing she didn’t have enough peanut butter chips for her fudge. Luckily a quick call to her dad who was still in town, saved the day.
Honestly, I am most excited for my kids to experience a new county fair, with new people, hopefully making new friends, and having a new kind of fun with evening rodeos, iced lattes, and making memories. I will keep you posted throughout the week, but mostly my plan is to share with some of the girls 4-H baking recipes with you!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Merriman, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
