Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
Thanks for tuning in to a new week right here on Ranch Raised. It is kind of a big week here on Ranch Raised. On this Friday, we will celebrate our 100th episode! I really can’t believe how we got here.
I met Monte James, co-owner of Your Ag Network at Bassett Livestock when he came to cover an R-CALF calf sale fundraiser. He asked me for an interview and I’m sure I went on and on and on about the crisis in the cattle industry. A few weeks later, he asked me if I would start sharing cattle industry news as a guest broadcaster on Hot Barn Report. After a few weeks of that, R-CALF Friday on Hot Barn Report was born and it has just stuck. I love sharing about the issues in the cattle industry and I just felt so natural doing it.
After a few months of that Jesse Stroud and Monte James asked me if I would consider starting my own daily show about ranch life and small-town America. I was a bit baffled. I never sold myself as any kind of broadcaster. I had no experience. They assured me that they knew I had stories tell. But who would want to listen to my 500-baby goat stories and does anyone care about my pie recipes? I told them I needed a few months to let some stuff settle on my plate. They were patient and asked again. And here we are knocking on the door of our 100th episode. So this week I will be sharing facts about me and what got me here, I mean other than Monte and Jesse asking me.

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 3 daughters near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report that is broadcast on 60 radio stations with coverage in 9 states, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and highlights R-CALF’s work on industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
