Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

It’s our midweek check in here on Ranch Raised!

I can think of no better place to teach compassion, responsibility and joy than in a barn! It is no secret that our girls love to be in the barn! From goat kidding to calving season, they love experiencing the new life that is bursting at the seams!

If you are ever having a bad day, come on over. I will place a cute, snuggly baby goat in your arms and it will be the best medicine you have ever known! Even when we aren’t not welcoming new babies, there is hardly a day of the year that our barn doesn’t have livestock in it or my kids in it. Our girls seem to always have the barn fully occupied with livestock they are training.

Teaching a young colt how to trust and pick up their feet. Training their goats and cattle for the show ring. And occasionally a dog agility course gets set up in the barn just for fun! Kids learn the enormity of taking care of animals that cannot feed or water themselves and actually come to find pride in being those caretakers.

We have never taken our kids on a big vacation. They seem to show no interest in Disney World or a trip the beach anywhere. But their faces light up whenever we say, “Hey want to go down to the barn?” Not only are miracles born in a ranch barn, but kids blossom there too, just take my word for it!

Tune in tomorrow as we head to the arena on Ranch Raised!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 3 daughters near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report that is broadcast on 60 radio stations with coverage in 9 states, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and highlights R-CALF’s work on industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
