With food-flation and grocery prices the way they are, I think thorough planning is more important than ever this holiday season to avoid bloated grocery bills and famished wallets. I really have confidence that you can put on a great meal without breaking the bank. It may not look like years past, but it can still help your family create memories around the table with the ones you love.
I know my locally owned grocery stores are running some great deals this week! I plan on stocking up items like butter and baking necessities that they have marked down this time of year. Did you know that you can actually make cranberry sauce really cheap, and it tastes better than anything in a can? I will share my recipe later this week, but in the meantime, grab a bag or two of cranberries! They are in season this time of year and so affordable.
Be saving your stale bread. Just throw it in the freezer. You can use it next week for awesome, homemade stuffing that is SO EASY! Okay, that little tidbit may remind you that I am also the same woman who washes and reuses her sour cream containers.
The biggest planning tip is deciding what protein you are serving! Check with your local butcher shops to see what deals they have. Check with your local pasture to plate producers to see what they have in stock. I can make a boneless beef roast as juicy and flavorful as prime rib on my smoker! The recipe is on the Your Ag Network app and website. But bottom-line is, start preparing this week for next week’s holiday meal.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
