We just came off of a big weekend spending time as a family at the world renowned AKSARBEN Stock Show. Well, to be honest, we spend every weekend as a family, one way or another.
Today is a new day and it is actually formally known as National Family Day. It does baffle me a little that we have to put a day like this on the holiday calendar. Shouldn’t everyday be “family day”? There are suggestions about eating supper together and that further perplexes me. If you aren’t eating supper together, where are you eating supper?
According to Gitnux Market Data the most surprising family trends in 2023 are:

This statistic serves as a stark reminder of the importance of carving out quality time for family. With the average American family spending less than an hour together during the week, it is clear that many families are not prioritizing spending time together. This statistic highlights the need for families to make an effort to spend more time together and to make the most of the time they do have.”
This breaks my heart! We have become a society where the busy-ness of life and over committing our kids to every extra-curricular has broken the home into a crazy puzzle that rarely fits together. Let’s all do better to place the family at the top of the priority list.
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
